About shibari

What is shibari?+

Shibari (also known as kinbaku) is a Japanese rope bondage practice. At NekoNeko we approach it as both a technical discipline and an art form — with serious attention to safety, aesthetics, and the relationship between the people involved.

Do I need to know anything about rope before coming?+

No. Our beginner classes assume zero prior experience. You will learn the foundations from scratch in a structured, supportive environment.

Is shibari safe?+

When practised with proper technique and clear communication, yes. Our classes cover both the physical and relational aspects of safety — how to tie without causing harm, how to communicate during a session, and what to do if something feels wrong. Safety is not an afterthought — it is built into everything we teach.

Choosing a class

How do I know which level is right for me?+

Beginner classes are for people with no or very little rope experience. Intermediate classes assume you are comfortable with basic ties and harnesses. Advanced classes are for people with a solid technical foundation who want to work on more complex material. If you are unsure, write to us — we are happy to help you choose.

Can I come alone, or do I need a partner?+

Both are fine. Many people come solo and find a practice partner at the studio. If you come as a pair, you will work together. We will always make sure everyone has someone to work with.

What is the class format?+

Classes are small — typically 6 to 12 people. Each session focuses on specific techniques, with demonstrations followed by supervised practice time. There is always space to ask questions.

Booking

How do I register for a class?+

Each event on the schedule has a registration form. Fill it in and you will receive a confirmation with all the details including the studio address.

How many spots are available per class?+

It varies by class — the number of spots is shown on each event page. When the form closes, the class is full.

What is the cancellation policy?+

If you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible. We do our best to accommodate last-minute changes — reach out via Instagram or Telegram.

Do you offer gift cards?+

Yes. We have gift certificates for shibari classes, photo sessions, Rope Jam entries, and any upcoming event. Write to us on Telegram or by email and we will arrange it — digital or physical.

At the studio

What should I wear?+

Comfortable clothing that allows movement. For models (people being tied), clothes that can be easily removed or worked around work best — avoid thick layers or structured garments. There is no dress code.

What should I bring?+

If you have your own rope, bring it. If not, rope is available at the studio for use during class. You can also purchase rope from us.

Are photos taken during classes?+

Only with explicit consent. We sometimes photograph during workshops for documentation purposes, but nothing is shared publicly without permission from everyone involved.

What language are classes taught in?+

Classes are primarily in English and Russian. Let us know if you have language questions before booking.
