Hashira means “pillar” in Japanese. In Shibari, it is the practice of tying a person to a vertical post and using the post as part of the scene. It creates a fixed point for exploring posture, restraint, distance, tension, pressure, balance, and movement.

During the first half of the Jam, we’ll introduce the basics and explore several ways to approach Hashira. You’ll have time to try the ideas, ask questions, and adapt them to your own style and experience.

In the second half, the studio becomes a regular open Rope Jam. You can keep working with Hashira or do whatever else you want — tie however you like, practice your own ideas, observe, or socialize. As always, everything should be based on mutual consent and adapted to your experience.

What to bring

If you have your own rope, bring it. If not, rope is available at the studio, and you can buy some from our shop. Wear comfortable clothing that allows movement — see our studio rules for more.
